Highways England is hoping to boost the range of electric cars by introducing roads that charge them as they drive. During the trials, vehicles will be fitted with wireless technology and special equipment will be installed beneath roads to replicate motorway conditions. Electric cables under the surface will generate electromagnetic fields, which will be picked up by a coil inside the device and converted to electricity. The trial will last 18 months and could be followed by more tests on real roads. Check out the full article from Mashable for more details.
